Mumbai-Pune In 35 Minutes Set To Be Reality As Hyperloop Project Is A Go

In an impetus to the dream journey between Mumbai and Pune in under 35 minutes, the Maharashtra government has approved the Virgin Hyperloop One-DP World consortium as the "Original Project Proponent" (OPP) for the Pune-Mumbai hyperloop project -- a move that will generate jobs and over $36 billion in various socio-economic benefits. According to Virgin Hyperloop One, the state government -- one of the first proponents of hyperloop technology in the world -- has deemed hyperloop a public infrastructure project, setting it up to be the first hyperloop project in the world. DP World (DPW), a global trade leader and a major ports and logistics operator in India, is set to invest $500 million to complete phase 1 of the project, which will certify this new technology for passenger operations. Bata to pay ₹9,000 fine for charging ₹3 for a paper bag

The Chandigarh Consumer Commission recently ordered Bata India Ltd to pay  ₹ 9,000 in fine for charging   ₹ 3 from a customer for a paper bag to carry the shoebox. Legal experts say the order is legally valid across the country and that stores cannot charge consumers additional charges for the bag if the product is purchased from the same store. The forum's order came on a complaint filed by a consumer, Dinesh Prasad Raturi. Raturi told the consumer panel that he had purchased a pair of shoes on February 5 from the shoe store located in Sector 22D. The store charged  ₹ 402, which also included cost for the bag. Raturi contested that by charging him for the bag, Bata was also endorsing its brand on the bag which was not justified. Raturi sought a refund of  ₹ 3 and compensation for deficiency in services. India launches air raids on Pakistani territory

The Indian Air Force today carried out strikes across the Line of Control in Muzaffarabad sector and Chakothi in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and near Balakot in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.  Pakistan was on Tuesday caught napping when India purportedly carried out air strikes inside the country and targeted terror camps. The strikes involving 12 Mirage 2000 jets of the Indian Air Force destroyed camps belonging to Pakistan-based terror groups, like Jaish-e-Muhammed and Lashkar-e-Toiba. The extent of the damage inflicted on the ground is not known yet. From July, quota in higher education across all private institutions: Govt

Reservation for SCs, STs, OBCs and economically weaker sections in the general category will be extended in higher education to all private institutions from the new academic session starting July, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar announced Tuesday. The central government, in all probability, will introduce a Bill in the upcoming Budget session of Parliament to implement Tuesday’s decision, which comes 12 years after the Constitution was amended to pave the way for reservation in private educational institutions. However, the government may not take the legislative route to implement the newly announced 10% cent quota for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of the general category in central educational institutions. Sources said it will be introduced through an executive order this week. NASA selects painting by 12-year-old student from Tamil Nadu for their 2019 space calendar

A 12-year-old boy from Tamil Nadu's Dindigul district made the country proud after a painting by him was selected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for its 2019 calendar. One of the millions of school students who sent in their entries for the calendar, N Thenmukilan sent the agency a painting by him with 'Space Food' as the theme. The painting urges astronauts to grow vegetables in space which will add nutrition content to their diet, Thenmukilan told media outlets. Telangana Records 73.2 Per Cent Voter Turnout

The Election Commission on Saturday announced that 73.20 percent polling was registered in the Telangana Assembly elections on Friday. The announcement came more than 24 hours after the polling ended in all 119 constituencies. Suspense continued throughout the day over the final figure of voter turnout. Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Rajath Kumar had stated late Friday that 67 percent polling was recorded at 5 p.m. Since those standing in queues were allowed to vote even after 5 and this process continued for four to five hours in some polling centres, the final figure was estimated at 69.1 percent. Over 2.8 crore people were eligible to vote. According to a statement released by Election Commission Saturday night, among 31 districts, Yadadri Bhongir recorded the highest turnout of 90.95 percent. Hyderabad recorded lowest turnout of 48.89 percent. This was earlier estimated at 50 percent. Most constituencies around Hyderabad also recorded low turnout of 50-55 percent. ...

India To Retain Top Position In Remittances With USD 80 Billion: World Bank

India will retain its position as the world's top recipient of remittances this year with the Indian community sending a whopping USD 80 billion back home, the World Bank said in a report on Saturday. India is followed by China (USD 67 billion), Mexico and the Philippines (USD 34 billion each) and Egypt (USD 26 billion), according to the global lender. With this, India has retained its top spot on remittances, according to the latest edition of the World Bank's Migration and Development Brief. The Bank estimates that officially-recorded remittances to developing countries will increase by 10.8 per cent to reach USD 528 billion in 2018. This new record level follows a robust growth of 7.8 per cent in 2017. Global remittances, which include flows to high-income countries, are projected to grow by 10.3 per cent to USD 689 billion, it said.
