After coming together to create Google's popular "Nexus 6P" smartphone, Chinese smartphone maker Huawei's sub-brand Honor has become the first test-bed for Google's in-development operating system (OS) Fuchsia. We've heard of the possibility of Google announcing a mid-range Pixel device but we weren't really sure when. There were a couple of codenames that were mentioned  in an APK teardown : Sargo and Bonito. These are both the names of sea-dwelling creatures like the previous codenames that Google has used for both Pixel and Nexus devices in the past. Today's new leak reveals much more about a mid-range Google phone thanks to some new leaked photos released by  Rozetked , the same website that had its hands on the  Google Pixel 3 XL  and  released a full-hands on video  over a week before the official event took place. The photos reveal that Google's new midrange smartphone will have a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a design akin to the  Google Pixel 2 . Otherwise, the photos show the phone to have a glossy frame, which means it might be made of plastic. Google might be the king of search right now, but it's not an easy task staying at the top. Aside from being efficient enough to convince users to come to them, Google also occasionally has to make sacrifices. Sometimes, that's a $9 billion sacrifice to maintain its monopoly. According to a Business Insider report, courtesy of Goldman Sachs analyst Rod Hall, Google will pay Apple approximately Rs 65,000 crore in 2018 in order to remain the Safari browser's default search engine. That number will also climb to $12 billion in 2019 (approximately Rs 87,000 crore). If that seems like an unreasonable amount to pay for such intangible benefits, think again. After all, Safari is the default browser on everything from the iPhone, to the iPad and Mac. Indian-born  Google  CEO Sundar Pichaihas said he does not regret firing James Damore, a former employee who was ousted from the company last year for criticising the tech giant for its diversity policy. When asked about Google's decision to fire Damore during an interview with MSNBC, Pichai said, "I don't regret it. It was the right decision". "The last thing we do when we make decisions like this is look at it with a political lens," Pichai told the TV show hosts late on Friday. Damore, who was ousted for writing a 10-page anti-diversity memo last year, filed a class-action lawsuit against Google this month, claiming that it discriminates against white men. Damore, in his lawsuit filed in a California court, said that Google "ostracised, belittled and punished" him and a fellow plaintiff. He added that he and others who share his views at Google long have been "singled out, mistreated, and systematically punished and terminated from Google, ...

Google awarded over  USD 112,000 to a Chinese security researcher for reporting an exploit in Google Pixel smartphones. The Android security team posted in the Google developers forum that Guang Gong of Alpha Team, Qihoo 360 Technology Co. Ltd. had submitted a working remote exploit chain in August 2017. This was the first such exploit since the expansion of Android Security Rewards (ASR) program. “For his detailed report, Gong was awarded USD 105,000, which is the highest reward in the history of the ASR program and USD 7,500 by Chrome Rewards program for a total of USD 112,500,” Mayank Jain and Scott Roberts wrote for the Android security team. Gong in a  blog post  also outlined the bugs he and his team discovered. The issues reported by Gong and others as well were resolved as part of the December 2017 monthly security update.
