Microsoft Office App Unveiled for Windows 10, Brings Features of Office.com

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Office app replicates the Office.com experience
  • Organisations can customise the app with logos and links
  • App is free to download

Microsoft has launched a Windows 10 app for their Office suite users, who frequently use the Web versions of the apps. The app provides an experience similar to what users get when they log onto Office.com - where links to all the web versions of all Office apps are conveniently linked along with quick access to the cloud stored documents and other files. The app is free and works across Office 365 subscriptions, Office 2019, Office 2016 and also for users of Microsoft's free Office Online service.
The interface of the new Office app gives a near identical experience to what you will get from Office.com, only packaged to integrate seamlessly with Windows. Besides the option to launch the Web versions of Office apps, Office 365 subscribers will also have the option to install the Office suite right from the app itself. Documents and files stored locally as well as in OneDrive and SharePoint can be easily accessed through a convenient listing on the app, allowing access to all your files seamlessly.
Microsoft has also built in a search function that helps locate apps, documents, people, and sites according to the query. Organisations have the option to customise the app using their company's branding and add their own business apps to the interface as well.
A blog post on Microsoft.com points out that the previously available MyOffice app will soon be updated to the new Office app, which will soon be rolling out on the Microsoft Store for Windows 10 users. By summer next year, Windows 10 devices will come with the Office app pre-installed.
According to Microsoft, over 40 percent of Office 365 web users start their work by visiting Office.com.
