Five products we wanted to see, but Apple didn’t launch last week

From the iPad Mini 5 to AirPods 2, here's everything Apple didn't announce at last week's event in New York.

Apple announced a new MacBook Air with Retina Display, an all-new iPad Pro, the second-generation Apple Pencil, and the first major Mac Mini update in years last week. However, several rumoured products were missing from the presentation. There was no mention of its wireless charging pad AirPower neither we get to hear about the next iPad Mini. But then these were always rumours and Apple hadn’t even hinted at working on some of these products. But some of these were logical products for Apple to have released. Here is a list of products we would have loved to see from Apple.
Apple iPad Mini 5
The last time Apple released a mini version of the iPad was in September 2015 when it introduced the iPad Mini 4. Ever since then we are still waiting for Apple to release a new version of a small screened tablet. While the company did briefly mention about the iPad Mini 4 (yes, it continues to sell at $399) during the recently concluded event, it did not announce an upgrade.

We don’t know when the company is planning to launch the successor to the iPad Mini 4, but TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a track record of predicting Apple products before they launch based on the Asian supply chain, claims a new model is on the cards. A few days ahead of the October 30 event, Kuo did shed light on a new iPad Mini, which according to him could feature an upgraded processor and low-cost screen. Kuo believes Apple might launch the device either in the fourth quarter or in the first quarter of next year. But the larger smartphone screens have made the concept of a small tablet almost redundant.

Apple AirPods 2

Apple originally introduced its AirPods in 2016. Although the current-generation wireless buds are completely fine, many users have been wanting to upgrade to a newer version. Multiple reports suggest that Apple is working on the AirPods 2, buy the device won’t get launched until 2019. Whenever the new AirPods comes to the market, they will likely get the hands-free Hey Siri voice activation feature currently available on iPhone, iPad and HomePod, noise cancellation, water resistance, and wireless charging support.

Just in case you don’t remember, Apple previewed a new wireless charging case for AirPods last year, but the company has been delaying its release since then. Word on the street is that the AirPods 2 are likely to make their debut next year alongside the company’s long rumoured StudioPods over-ear headphones. At the moment, Apple continues to sell the AirPods for Rs 12,900.

Apple AirPower

Mystery continues over the disappearance of AirPower name from Apple’s website. Yes, the same wireless charging mat which was announced last year alongside the iPhone X and iPhone 8. During the presentation, Apple said the AirPower can charge up three devices (iPhone X, AirPods and Apple Watch) simultaneously. According to recent reports, AirPower could have suffered from some technical issues that Apple might not be able to fix them any time soon. It’s possible that Apple could be working on an entirely new model of the AirPower that could hit store shelves sometime in 2019.
