KGI analyst states the iPhone SE 2 will unlikely to include 3D sensing The new iPhone SE model is also not likely to come with wireless charging Ming-Chi Kuo believes the next iPhone SE will run iOS 12 While you might be looking for a new  iPhone X  version, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in his latest note details some of the key features of the next affordable iPhone model that would debut as the iPhone SE 2. Kuo has reportedly refuted some of the recent claims about the next-generation iPhone SE model by stating that the new model would not come with any form factor changes and would neither include 3D sensing features nor wireless charging support. Nonetheless, the new iPhone model is expected to be a part of Apple's plans for this year with cheaper components and a slightly upgraded processor that will make the hardware run iOS 12. As reported by 9to5Mac, KGI believes that resources by Apple are presently dedicated to the iPhone X development and thus, there are fewer cha

Sources claim Xiaomi won't unveil the Mi 7 at MWC 2018

As we inch towards MWC 2018, tensions within the industry are mounting, as per usual. With rumors flying left and right, it's incredibly hard to paint a good picture of company inner-working and relations, especially around this time of year. However, there has been an undeniable serge in scheduling and timing reports and issues as of late and Xiaomi is now part of that list as well. Unlike  last year , Xiaomi will definitely be present at the Barcelona venue this time around. However, a high-ranking company employee has allegedly stated in anonymity that there will be no major announcements involved. That means no Mi 7 or Mi Max 3, for example. However, another fresh insider tip, one based on supplier chain info, claims that the company is preparing to unwrap an updated Mi Mix 2S model, potentially prior to MWC. Other sources say that the new proprietary  Surge S2 chipset  will be featured at the show. It is pretty clear that Xiaomi is cooking up quite a few interesting new device

Xiaomi Passes Samsung to Become Top Smartphone Seller in India in Q4 2017: Counterpoint, Canalys

Samsung Electronics has lost its crown as the top smartphone seller in India for the first time in six years, as it was outsold by China’s  Xiaomi  in the final quarter of 2017, data from two tech research firms shows. Xiaomi’s aggressively priced suite of high-spec handsets and market expansion strategy enabled it to take the top spot in the world’s biggest smartphone market after China, said Tarun Pathak of Counterpoint Research. The Chinese company, which is exploring a public listing and is now valued at close to $100 billion (roughly Rs. 6.34 lakh crores), entered India just over three years ago. Its strategy there has so far rested on flash sales on leading homegrown e-commerce player Flipkart and US tech giant  Amazon.com ‘s Indian site, an approach that helped it snatch market share without have to spend heavily on marketing. Counterpoint pegged Xiaomi’s smartphone market share in India at 25 percent in the fourth quarter based on shipments, ahead of Samsung’s 23 percent. Leno

Musk's new pay deal could make him the world's richest man—if Tesla succeeds

It is the  Elon Musk  of corporate pay deals, a cocksure, all-or-nothing moonshot into history. Little wonder, then, that it is for none other than Elon Musk.  Tesla  Inc. granted the billionaire founder a $2.6 billion award, the largest-ever of its kind, underscoring the company's outsize ambitions and how intimately connected its future success is to Musk. If fully vested over a decade, stock options would net him as much as $55.8 billion. Along the way, nothing would be guaranteed -- zero salary or cash bonuses.  The audacious award outlines a plan for Tesla to become one of the world's biggest companies, which would make Musk perhaps the richest man on the planet in the process, but without as detailed a road map to get there as was provided with his last award. This, too, is very Musk-like -- set big-picture, moonshot end goals, particulars be damned.  "It's breathtaking both in size and in terms of performance required to earn it," Steven Hall, man

Apple may discontinue iPhone X around July-August

SAN FRANCISCO: More sluggish-than-expected response may lead  Apple  to discontinue the first-generation  iPhone X around mid-2018 as the second-generation model is set for launch later this year, an analyst associated with Taiwanese business group  KGI Securities  has said.  According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the most famous analyst with KGI Securities when it comes to Apple, the Cupertino-based giant will not sell  iPhone  X at lower price as it will hurt its other products in the lower-priced premium segment.  Kuo estimated that Apple would ship about 18 million iPhone X units in the January-March quarter in 2018, MacRumors reported late on Monday.  We revise down 1Q18 and 2Q18 shipments of iPhone X to 18 million units and 13 million units, respectively, lower than market consensus of 20-30 million and 15-20 million units," Kuo said.  "We expect iPhone X will go to end of life (EOL) around mid-2018 and that total life cycle shipments will be around 62 million units, lower than our

Microsoft unveils $200 Windows 10 laptops for schools

Microsoft is taking the fight to Chromebooks with a selection of new sub-$200 laptops and sub-$300 convertible PCs. They come with Windows 10 and are loaded with free software to aid in your studies. The Lenovo 100e will cost just $190 and is powered by an Intel Celeron (Apollo Lake). The company also has the 300e, a $280 convertible with pen support. The Trigono V401 convertible ($300) supports both touch and pen input while the Classmate Leap T303 laptop ($200) features the added security of Windows Hello. You’re probably wondering about screen resolution, RAM, storage and so on (we are too). The HP Stream 11 Pro G4 EE (which is also a part of the lineup) has an HD screen, 4GB of RAM and 64GB eMMC storage, which we think is a good guideline of the type of hardware on offer. That said, the software alone could be worth more than $200. There’s Windows 10 for one (though some of these will run 10 S), but also Office 365 with OneNote and Teams. This will make writing and collaborating wi

Turn any Android 8.1 Oreo ROM into an Android Go-Optimized Version

Android Go is a special version of Android 8.1 Oreo that is optimized to run on low-end hardware. It consists of a series of build configurations and optimized applications that allow for owners of newer budget devices to enjoy features in the Android Oreo framework without spending more on a mid-range or flagship device. We previously outlined how older low-end devices running a custom Android 8.1 Oreo ROM might be able to take advantage of Android Go-specific optimizations, but for those wanting to get Android Go’s benefits without rebuilding the ROM, XDA Recognized Developer AdrianDC has you covered. He has managed to bring the majority of the optimizations made by Android Go to any Android device on Android 8.1 Oreo. All you need to do is flash a zip file found on our Android Software and Hacking forum. There are a few optimizations that can’t be changed with this simple tweak, but one of the most important ones, the low RAM optimization, is here. What’s even better is it’s designe

Google CEO Sundar Pichai Defends Decision to Fire Anti-Diversity Memo Author James Damore

Indian-born  Google  CEO Sundar Pichaihas said he does not regret firing James Damore, a former employee who was ousted from the company last year for criticising the tech giant for its diversity policy. When asked about Google's decision to fire Damore during an interview with MSNBC, Pichai said, "I don't regret it. It was the right decision". "The last thing we do when we make decisions like this is look at it with a political lens," Pichai told the TV show hosts late on Friday. Damore, who was ousted for writing a 10-page anti-diversity memo last year, filed a class-action lawsuit against Google this month, claiming that it discriminates against white men. Damore, in his lawsuit filed in a California court, said that Google "ostracised, belittled and punished" him and a fellow plaintiff. He added that he and others who share his views at Google long have been "singled out, mistreated, and systematically punished and terminated from Google,

This Android live wallpaper brings you a bird’s eye view of your location

I’m all about beautifying the interface on my Android phone, and so I’m happy to report that I’ve just come across one of the best tools for livening up your wallpaper. All you need to do is move around! Skyline, a fairly new live wallpaper app, grabs 3D terrain data from Mapbox  for your exact location, so you can see what it looks like from high above wherever you are in the world. Here’s my home screen setup, with Skyline set to Yosemite national park: It also includes parallax effects so you can see more of the area when you unlock your phone, swipe through screens, or tilt your device in different directions. You can also set any location on the planet to get a different background, and pan and zoom before you apply a new background. Depending on where you point the app, the results can be breathtaking; I enjoyed looking for interesting landscapes by searching through the places listed in the r/earthporn subreddit. If you enjoyed the overhead view live wallpapers that came with th

This is how founders of WhatsApp got the idea to start the messaging service

Few of the greatest of products in the world were discovered to solve simplest of the problems. WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum reveals what got him the idea to start the world’s most popular instant messaging service The problem that Jon Koum missed calls when he was at the gym got him the idea to found WhatsApp, the co-founder and CEO of the Facebook-owned company said on Wednesday. Talking to an audience of several hundred Silicon Valley veterans gathered for an event at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California, Koum said that he was annoyed that he was missing lot of calls when he was at the gym. "It started with me buying an iPhone," he said. He along with Brian Acton in 2009 decided to solve the problem by building an app which would let their friends know if they are available or occupied with something. And, the weapon in WhatsApp’s armour was ‘status’—an easy-to-use feature. "We didn't set out to build a company. We just wanted to build a produc

Google guves Rs 71 lakh to Chinese researchers for Pixel devices

Google awarded over  USD 112,000 to a Chinese security researcher for reporting an exploit in Google Pixel smartphones. The Android security team posted in the Google developers forum that Guang Gong of Alpha Team, Qihoo 360 Technology Co. Ltd. had submitted a working remote exploit chain in August 2017. This was the first such exploit since the expansion of Android Security Rewards (ASR) program. “For his detailed report, Gong was awarded USD 105,000, which is the highest reward in the history of the ASR program and USD 7,500 by Chrome Rewards program for a total of USD 112,500,” Mayank Jain and Scott Roberts wrote for the Android security team. Gong in a  blog post  also outlined the bugs he and his team discovered. The issues reported by Gong and others as well were resolved as part of the December 2017 monthly security update. The company thanked researcher community for their contributions. All pixel devices will automatically install these updates however the users need to restar
